Our weekend

We went away for our pseudo 10th anniversary weekend this last weekend. I say pseudo since our real anniversaries are either in February or in August. We prefer to celebrate the sacramental anniversary in August, but I didn't want to wait until then when it would be HOT and I would be really pregnant. As it is, we picked a perfect weekend. Ok, maybe 10 degrees cooler would have been a little more perfect.

We dropped the kids off at Laura and Jason's house after dinner and arrived at the Shellmont Inn at 7:30. It's a beautiful old Victorian house, and you can see the love the owners put into the renovations. Our room was awesome, and it was nice to be able to chat with Debbie about places to eat and things to do. We ended up at a Chinese restaurant not far from the Inn that first night.

The next day, after an awesome in-house breakfast, we decided to walk to the Coke museum, which was about a mile away. The city was so quiet at 9 on a Saturday morning! The coke museum was alright...we had the most fun trying all the different drinks from around the world. We went to Centennial Park because there was a kite festival. We were expecting fancy kites, but mostly it seemed that the kids there were making their own kites and trying to fly them. It wasn't what we were expecting so we took off. We ended up at the Broadway Diner for lunch, where I had a yummy corned beef sandwich, and James had a gyro. By this time, we were hot and tired and had walked probably about 2.5 to 3 miles so we headed back to chill at the house before the evening activities. My allergies were giving me grief, and I hadn't slept well the night before. I wasn't sure I was going to make it the rest of the day!

After showering and getting ready, we briefly went to Piedmont Park, which was only a few blocks from the Shellmont. There were lots of strange-looking ducks and strange-seeming people, and we saw some pictures being taken for a wedding. We headed back and were advised to drive to the Shakespeare Tavern instead of walking since it's right near a homeless shelter and we wouldn't be coming back until after 10 p.m. I was only too glad to drive at that point!

We decided to eat there. They had classic old English pub fare, and I had shepherd's pie. James had the king's supper sandwich. We watched a fabulously funny rendition of "The Taming of the Shrew," and I found myself wishing we could go back again soon for another play. I enjoyed it more than I expected! That night, we slept much better and woke up to yummy Belgian waffles and an enjoyable chat with Debbie over coffee.

We packed up and headed out to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for Mass. And this is where I copped out. I didn't feel like getting all hot again looking for a place for lunch so we just ended up at the Varsity for chili dogs (James had slaw dogs). We probably should have found something ...different. Oh well! It was good.

We headed toward Jason and Laura's to get the kids, but they weren't home yet so we went to the Korean farmer's market to look for rhubarb and swiss chard and to drool over the teapots and other little dishes. Well, the drooling was all me.

Now, it's back to reality, and I do feel refreshed, but I'm still irritable. Maybe it's just a pregnancy thing!

We failed at taking pictures. If you look at the Shellmont site up above, we stayed in the Eastlake room.
