ARGH! It's not over yet! We were supposed to get blood work done on Tuesday for Felicity. I thought it was just going to be another bilirubin level. However, once I opened the orders, I saw it was for CBC, a liver panel, and something else - I knew these meant vein puncture rather than heel stick. So, I apprehensively went in to the phlebotomist. She was hesitant to stick the baby, and she half-heartedly looked for a vein. In the end, she didn't do it, and I said I would talk to my doctor because I wasn't sure why he was running these anyway. I knew the CBC had been run in the hospital and I thought the liver panel had been too. If she didn't have a liver problem 2 weeks ago, why would she now? The doctor's office told me I could wait until Thursday to talk to the doc about it so we went in this morning. He finally had received the results of her tests from the hospital, and there was no liver panel on there. (I still think it was done.) Long story shorter, we were sent to a bit more distant lab where they're more experienced with baby sticks to get the liver panel done. We got there about 1 o'clock, and there were two cars in the parking lot and no one in the waiting room. Awesome! Talked with the receptionist - two hour wait! WHAT? So, after briefly considering trying to go back to our usual lab, I decided to stay. It was only 1 hour and 15 minutes later when the lab guy came in to get us. And guess what. He wanted to do a HEEL STICK! So, I debated with him for a bit about how I didn't want to have to come back tomorrow if he was wrong about being able to do a heel stick. He claimed the only reason it would have to be done through a vein is a) the amount needed or b) the technique of the tech could damage the blood rendering it useless. He said we didn't need that much, and that HE would not damage the blood. God help me, I believed him. (I've been through at least 12 attempts (mostly failed) at either getting an IV into or getting blood out of this kid, and I don't really wish to witness it again!) So, please pray we don't have to go back tomorrow!!! He did look at her veins. He found one that was decent but very small, and he didn't look too enthused about it. Ay yi yi... We should have results tomorrow.
In a different vein (hahaha), she weighed 9lb 14oz! She was 8lb 6oz at 2 weeks old. I can't believe she's 10 pounds already!
Oh, and I also got THE sweetest card from my wonderful hubby today. :) I love him so much, and he's doing what he needs to do to get our family back on the right track. I thank God for him every day. :)
